Small but Mighty!

4 Leaf Clover Club at the rink

"4 Leaf Clover Club at the rink"

by Hayley Frail, Club Reporter. The North Queens “4 Leaf Clover” 4-H Club made their presence known at the recent Provincial Show held in Bridgewater. Although the club is small, with only 23 members, we did very well in competition against all the other counties in Nova Scotia, placing in the top four in many categories. During the weekend events we did very well in livestock showmanship and competition, non-livestock competitions and judging events, again placing in the top four in many events as well as capturing a few Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion titles. We made sure they knew we were there, but the best part was that we had fun, made new friends and had a chance to use the numerous skills we had developed and refined over this past year. Now that our year has ended, we are ready and eager to begin again and we would sure like to have more members join us. If you would like to take part in club and community activities, sports and games, picnics and campouts, parties, tours and exchanges, learn the importance of giving back to your community, make new friends, work on projects of things that interest you, try to do something new, learn new skills or discover your talents, then you should come to the new members meeting on November 4th at 6:30 at the North Queens Rural High School. Cloverbuds may join at age 7 and members must be between the ages of 9 and 21. If your older than 21 and would still like to be involved, you can also join us by becoming a volunteer leader, we’re always in need of those. As of now we have 15 different projects on the go, both livestock and non-livestock, and would like to add a few more this year. What would you like to try? Come tell us and we’ll see if we can make it happen. 4-H is not just a club, it’s a family. It’s where you can “Learn to do by doing”. Being encouraged to do your best, at whatever you try, by the very people you are competing against, not only develops great self-esteem, it also encourages good sportsmanship and fair play. The 4 Leaf Clovers and Cloverbuds would like to thank all our sponsors, volunteers, project leaders, parents, and Queens 4-H Council. We would also like to say a special thanks to Karen McCarthy for being our general club leader. Without the support and dedication of each and every one of you, we would not have a club. If you have any questions about joining the North Queens 4-H Movement please contact Karen McCarthy at 682-3223 or check out the provincial 4-H website at http://www.gov.ns.ca/AGRI/4h/.
